Dear Hanover Families,

Yesterday, we experienced a carbon monoxide leak at Prairie Heights Elementary School.  EMS and the Hanover Fire Department responded and the buildings were evacuated.  EMS staff treated several students with supplemental oxygen ensuring their safety before going home.  EMS staff also tested all students still on site before releasing them to parents to ensure their safety. 

The Hanover Fire Department used gas monitoring equipment and did find small readings of carbon monoxide in certain parts of the building.  Causes were identified as a faulty heating unit and repairs are underway.  We expect all repairs to be completed before students return on Tuesday.  Additionally, we are adding Carbon Monoxide alarms to all rooms to provide early warning should this ever occur again. 

We want to commend our PHE Administrative team, our teachers, support staff and transportation team for their dedicated and efficient handling of this situation.  We would also like to thank the Hanover Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services for their caring responsive support.  Lastly, we would like to thank our students and parents who were patient and supportive in the evacuation and reunification.
