Welcome Back!!

Let me be the first to welcome all of our students and families back for what I am hopeful to be a great 2023-24 school year.  I hope everyone had a great summer and took some time to relax and most of all enjoy family and friends.

Both Prairie Heights Elementary and Hanover Junior/Senior High Schools are fully staffed and ready to meet your student’s needs.  Please be reminded that Alma and Parent Square are great informational tools for you to keep up on the activities and events occurring at both schools.  Please feel free to call the school with any additional questions or information that you need.  Thank you for your efforts to make education a priority in your student’s life.

Parents or guardians are responsible for making sure their child arrives at school/bus stop at the proper time and should encourage their child to remain in school the entire day. Should a student be absent or late to school, parents/guardians are responsible for calling the School Attendance Line 719-382-1260 for PHE or 719-683-2247 ext. 250 for JSHS or bringing a note to the front office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the same day to report that your child will be absent or late to school. If the attendance office does not receive a phone call or note from the parent/guardian by 4 p.m., the absence will be considered unexcused.

Parents are encouraged to schedule appointments during non-school times or on Mondays to maximize student attendance.

Healthy School Meals for All

Hanover School District is participating in the Healthy School Meals for All program! Approved by Colorado voters, the new program enables districts to offer free meals to all students.

Important Reminders for Families

Just like in previous years, families should continue to provide their household income information by completing the FEDs form. While meals will be provided for free to all Hanover School District 28 students through Healthy School Meals for All, it’s important for us to continue gathering this information in order to receive full access to available federal funding.

By providing this information, you will be supporting our district in accessing additional federal funds that will go directly to our schools to help cover the cost of meals, as well as after school programs and other nutritional programs for students. Plus, families who qualify may receive discounted school fees, class materials, bus passes, utilities support and more!

To minimize disruption to the educational process, the goal is always to keep school in session unless road conditions, severe cold or other weather conditions pose a significant risk to student safety.

Sudden weather changes are part of what we expect in Colorado. To help us ensure the safety of our students and staff to the best of our abilities, Hanover School District 28 has appointed personnel to drive sections of the District during a predicted storm. We assign the driving sections because, as we all know, the weather in one part of our District can be completely different than in another part of the District during a storm.

The personnel report on weather and road conditions, especially noting poor visibility, poor traction, and other hazardous road conditions, wind chill factors, and snow accumulation and brief the Superintendent on the conditions. We evaluate the conditions, and further driving reviews and conversations may occur.

The employee reports are used in addition to the reports from the National Weather Service and local emergency officials and in coordination with neighboring school districts. After all the data is examined, a decision is made for either a delayed start, a remote learning day, a full school closure, or school as usual by the Superintendent. All of this usually begins the night before a storm is predicted to hit and is usually accomplished by 5:30 a.m., so you may be notified in a timely manner.

More information on our process can be found on our Weather Page.
