Hanover District 28 Moves to Remote Learning

Dear Hanover Family,

We have been under a stress to our educational system this week.  Although we have only heard of a couple of positive COVID cases, we have had a substantial increase in absences.  In addition to high absenteeism in the student population, we are seeing a large number of teachers and support staff out for various reasons. Transportation has also suffered significantly and is having trouble staffing routes. After doing our due diligence and considering the impact on our students and the strain on our current infrastructure, we have to take precautionary measures. This tells me that we need to make a move to remote learning.

This is the last thing I want to do, but in order to nip this now I do not see a choice.  Today we are going to issue devices to students in attendance that need one and your teachers will start remote teaching and students will start remote learning tomorrow.  My plan is to have students return on November 16th. We will check in with teachers on Friday November 12th to ensure we are ready to return.  It is imperative for students to be available for regular classroom activities each day and attendance will be tracked by the teacher. Students not in attendance today but needing a Chromebook can pick up a device between 7:30AM and 10:30AM tomorrow, November 4th at your student’s respective school.

There will be no MS activities or athletics starting TODAY (11/3). Decisions concerning all high school activities will be communicated to those in specific activities impacted by this decision. As for the football playoff game in Fleming, we are going to do our best to ensure our athletes are rewarded for their hard work.  With parental permission, Football players will test today at practice to ensure they are COVID free.  They will practice per coach’s schedule during the week and will test again on Friday.  We are hoping we can pull this off and they will still get to play.

We appreciate your support and understanding.  Please take this time to get well and recharge.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
