Dear Hanover Family,
We continue to be under stress to our educational system.  We have polled our staff and students and we are seeing approximately 50% either having sickness or living with someone who is sick.  In addition, our El Paso County positivity rate is sitting at 12.78% for Covid.  We also are seeing an increase of flu in the county.  Hospitals are also at capacity. This tells me that we need to continue remote learning.
It is understandable that we would have to struggle with this after we were so isolated last year. This is the last thing I want to do, but in order to nip this now I do not see a choice.  Teachers will continue teaching this next week and we will have a blessed Thanksgiving week to get well and share some family time with each other.  We have every intention of returning after Thanksgiving break.  At which time we will have a celebratory, albeit belated, Thanksgiving lunch for our students and staff.
There will be no athletics or athletic practices until Monday November 29th.  Coaches will be in contact with athletes as to schedules and procedures.  We will reschedule our December 2nd and 4th games, giving us time to meet the required practices for the December 11th game.
If you are considering getting vaccinated, or are in need of a booster, please consider taking this time to schedule your shots. We appreciate your support and understanding.  Please take this time to get well and recharge.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Activities & Athletics Update During Remote Status

Activities and Athletics Update

During the change to remote learning, it is our stance that out of precaution for the health of all students at Hanover District 28 and Fleming Schools it was decided we are not going to participate in the CHSAA 6-man football playoffs.   Our administration and football leadership were trying to do everything in their power to get our boys to their playoff game this Saturday in Fleming but unfortunately we were forced to make a very difficult decision.   We believe in student safety first and foremost and saying we will do that is easy, but difficult decisions made for the safety and protection of our students and others, is much harder.  Our school community is saddened by the loss of this opportunity for our football team and understand the feelings generated from both communities over this decision. Our coaches and young men made this a season to be proud of and a season to remember.  We will celebrate their individual and team success during the athletic banquet at a date to be determined.
Middle school basketball for boys and girls is also being put on hold until we return from remote learning.  No practices or games will be held while we are in remote learning.  Games are already being rescheduled and we will update the district activities calendar once dates are verified.  We will also work with coaches to find a new date for the athletic banquet.   The annual Veterans Day assembly will also be rescheduled and information will be sent out accordingly at that time.

Hanover District 28 Moves to Remote Learning

Dear Hanover Family,
We have been under a stress to our educational system this week.  Although we have only heard of a couple of positive COVID cases, we have had a substantial increase in absences.  In addition to high absenteeism in the student population, we are seeing a large number of teachers and support staff out for various reasons. Transportation has also suffered significantly and is having trouble staffing routes. After doing our due diligence and considering the impact on our students and the strain on our current infrastructure, we have to take precautionary measures. This tells me that we need to make a move to remote learning.
This is the last thing I want to do, but in order to nip this now I do not see a choice.  Today we are going to issue devices to students in attendance that need one and your teachers will start remote teaching and students will start remote learning tomorrow.  My plan is to have students return on November 16th. We will check in with teachers on Friday November 12th to ensure we are ready to return.  It is imperative for students to be available for regular classroom activities each day and attendance will be tracked by the teacher. Students not in attendance today but needing a Chromebook can pick up a device between 7:30AM and 10:30AM tomorrow, November 4th at your student’s respective school.
There will be no MS activities or athletics starting TODAY (11/3). Decisions concerning all high school activities will be communicated to those in specific activities impacted by this decision. As for the football playoff game in Fleming, we are going to do our best to ensure our athletes are rewarded for their hard work.  With parental permission, Football players will test today at practice to ensure they are COVID free.  They will practice per coach’s schedule during the week and will test again on Friday.  We are hoping we can pull this off and they will still get to play.
We appreciate your support and understanding.  Please take this time to get well and recharge.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
