WELCOMING MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Hornet Nation,

As your new Superintendent, I welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year!  We hope your summer proved to be productive, yet relaxing. We are excited to welcome students back to school on August 12, 2021 and remain committed to offering in-person instruction 4 days a week in accordance with our district calendar. As we approach the start of the year, we recognize that students benefit most from in-person learning and that supporting a safe continuation of in-person learning during the 2021-2022 school year is critical. Because of the lost week due to water issues, we are adding a homeroom class for all students that will take place during breakfast in the cafeteria.  We will do announcements, say the Pledge of Allegiance, and have some team building strategies to start the each day.

Like you, we continue to watch and learn about the patterns, trends and variants of COVID-19 in our county, state and nation. In addition, we have reviewed the Guidance for COVID-19 Prevention in K-12 Schools released from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and have worked with the El Paso County Health Department to craft our Keeping School Open Plan. Our mitigation measures will continue to prioritize the health and wellness of our students and staff aligned to the guidelines and recommendations of the health professionals. Currently, health professionals continue to emphasize and support vaccination, coupled with masks for the unvaccinated, and social distancing, as the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students who are vaccinated protect themselves from the risk of missing school and preferred activities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines state that if your student is fully vaccinated, they will not be required to quarantine if they are exposed to someone who tests positive for the virus, as long as they are not showing symptoms.

I am reaching out to let you know our goal of a united safe community, striving for the benefit of our students.  I promised our students and staff that they are safe, they are loved, they are appreciated, they are cared about, we have high expectations because we want to help them achieve their dreams, because we love them, we care about them, and we appreciate them.

I am asking the entire Hornet Nation to join me in supporting our students, supporting our teachers, and supporting our staff.  Please volunteer for your children’s classrooms, join the PTA, come to a DAC meeting, and support the Booster’s Club.  Be an integral part of the Hornet Nation. Be there for our kids.

We Are One District

We Are One Team

We Have One Love for One Another

We Are THE Hornet Nation

I value your support and partnership as we work to keep our entire Hornet Nation community healthy and safe. Working together, we can all be “One District, One Team, One Love, and One Hornet Nation”. I look forward to seeing you all on August 12, 2021, and at our District Events!  Feel free to reach out and say hi. Let’s come together and be One.

Go Hornet Nation,

Kyle Cooper
