Our Commitment
Hanover School District 28 Special Education Department recognizes each student as an individual. Our staff is committed to respect, enable, and empower every student. We foster a caring, creative, and inclusive learning environment that emphasizes positive spirit and resilience.
Our goal: Provide educators and administrators with current information and resources for instruction, accommodations, and assessment for students with disabilities.

Inclusive Education
When students with disabilities receive special education services in the general education classroom, this is inclusive education. Students:
- Learn the general education curriculum with supplementary aids and services
- Work on Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals
- Have access to highly qualified teachers
Transition Services (Ages 18-21)
Our transition program prepares students with disabilities for life after high school by providing:
- Post-secondary readiness training
- Workplace readiness and training
- Access to supports and services for maximum independence
Related Services
Supportive services outlined in students' IEPs to maximize educational outcomes:
School Psychologists - Apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) - Communication experts who help students understand language and provide educational speech-language services
Hearing and Vision Team - Audiologists, teachers of the deaf/hard of hearing, and teachers of the visually impaired who provide accommodations and direct teaching for learning environment access
Assistive Technology (AT) Team - Interdisciplinary team of speech-language pathologists, special education teachers, and AT technicians providing consultative services for communication and academic response difficulties
Motor Team - Occupational therapists, physical therapists, and adaptive physical education teachers who support students' abilities to access the learning environment
