Colorado issues three types of substitute authorizations:
- 1‐year authorization
- 3‐year authorization
- 5‐year authorization
A substitute authorization allows you to work in a Colorado public school as a substitute teacher. The substitute authorizations are issued without grade level or subject endorsement area.

SCHOOL NURSE
Summary of Function
The school nurse is a member of the total educational team who instructs and directs children and staff to promote the mental and physical health of students so that they may participate in and benefit from the educational program. To accomplish this task, the nurse will perform or supervise the performance of the following services as established by the Standards of School Nursing Practice and in accordance with the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.
Essential Job Functions
- Ensures that the health needs of students are addressed during the school day
- Manages communicable diseases outbreaks
- Directs the immunization program
- Oversees delegated nursing tasks
- Develops and implements health care plans
- Serves as liaison between teachers, administrators, parents, and community health care providers
- Provides for the care of acute health care needs, including emergencies
- Conducts health assessments, including all required evaluation for students with suspected disabilities
- Oversees vision and hearing screening programs
- Oversees the medication administration policy of schools
- Prepares and submits appropriate reports and written summaries, including all required documentation for Medicaid reimbursement.

SR High English Language Arts Teacher
Job Title: High School English Language Arts Teacher
Work Year: Board-Approved Calendar ( 4-day school week)
Reports To: Principal
SUMMARY:
Creating a flexible high school age (grades 9-12) program based on subject matter of endorsement area (ELA) and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for preparation for college, vocational school or acquiring employment, in accordance with each student’s ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position. Actual duties, responsibilities, frequency, and percentages may vary depending upon assignments and other factors.
- Teaches courses in the area of certification to high school students, using the District/State-approved curriculum, the standards and benchmarks identified for each course, and other curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
- A.P. Training in Language/Literature preferred.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aides, stressing discovery and laboratory learning as necessary, depending on subject taught.
- Demonstrate subject matter concepts and examples using models, whiteboards, overhead projector, interactive whiteboards, computers, or any other standard or approved teacher-prepared instructional aides.
- Explains learning objectives and student expectations.
- Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students. Differentiates instruction and curriculum to meet individual student needs.
- Provides opportunities for student goal setting, reflection and self-assessment.
- Uses assessment to improve learning and instruction.
- Sets behavior expectations and consequences that are clear and consistently enforced.
- Participates in functional behavior assessments and in the development of intervention and support plans of individual students as necessary and required.
- Assumes responsibility for instruction, duties, supervision of students, and required meetings at designated times.
- Utilizes grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria.
- Evaluates students’ academic growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Maintains and submits accurate and complete records as required.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interpret the school program. Interacts with students, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, behavior, and learning problems.
- Establish rapport with students and provide a pleasant, safe, orderly and predictable environment conducive to learning.
- Actively participate in full implementation of the School Improvement Plan.
- Engage in professional development activities based on having a positive impact on student learning, aligned to Colorado Academic Standards, current research and student needs.
- Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with the District assessment program.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Initiates and leads collaborative activities with colleagues to analyze student data and interpret results, applying findings to improving their teaching practice while supporting students who are either struggling or advanced.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Enforces school board policies and regulations.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards including honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board Policy GCOA and GCOA-R Evaluation of Instructional Staff and Evaluation of Instructional Staff – Regulation.

JR High Math Teacher

Creating a flexible middle school age program based on subject matter of endorsement area and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for preparation for post-secondary or acquiring employment, in accordance with each student’s ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members. Opportunities to teach other non-math electives are possible.
