PARAPROFESSIONAL

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefit for students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (aligned to “Colorado Paraprofessional Standards”):

Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff. Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. Monitors work, corrects papers, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff . Serves as the chief source of information and help to any guest teacher assigned in the absence of the regular certified staff. Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified staff. Alerts the certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual student. Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips. When requested, serves as a resource person to the General Education Intervention Team and/_or IEP / Title 1/_ESL Team(s).

Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community. Participates in in-service training programs as approved. Maintains safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school-related duties. Performs other such duties / assignments as directed by the certified staff. Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the IEP / Title 1 / ESL Team(s).

Small Vehicle Driver

Summary of Function

Transport students (others as directed) to and from school, school to school, or to school related events in 14 passenger vehicle or smaller.

Essential job functions

1. Performs pre and post trip inspection of district vehicles to comply with all rules of
Department of Transportation, Colorado Department of Education and Hanover School
District regulations, policies and standards

2. Performs all emergency functions including evacuations (rear exit, window exit and roof exit as required)

3. Attends to all medical emergencies, for example seizures or other types of injuries
4. Provides instruction and direction to passengers as necessary
5. Responsible for student management and maintaining discipline on the bus
6. Performs administrative responsibilities including but not limited to: development of seating charts, documenting student conduct, maintain records, documenting maintenance related issues

7. Fuels and cleans transportation vehicles
8. Assists students as needed to board and exit the vehicle to include placing/maneuvering wheelchairs on and off lifts
9. Uses two-way radio to communicate with base station regarding conditions as necessary

Special Education Teacher

SUMMARY:
To the maximum extent possible, work within a regular classroom environment through
consultation and/or collaboration and/or co-teaching, with assigned regular education teachers, to provide modifications and accommodations per students’ IEPs; responsible for managing a student case load of 20 to 40 students; when required, shall design and implement small group to individualized instruction per students’ IEPs; consistently establishes effective rapport with students by use of research-based intervention techniques; responsible for working effectively with a team comprised of paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators, parents and central office staff with the purpose of providing quality educational services for each and every student, each and every day, without exception.

Monitors student attendance to ensure services and times indicated on the IEP are followed in order to maintain compliance 

Facilitates communication between building and special services center (i.e. submits spreadsheets, submits IEPs within expected time frames, building audits, etc.) Clearly communicates among special education personnel (teachers, Para-professionals, itinerants) and other district/school staff (administrators, general education teachers)

  • Coordinates student placement in and out of district to provide Least Restrictive

Environment (i.e. Building-based programs, center-based programs, and alternative programs Facilitates/participates in IEP meetings. Provides clear, supportive, and accurate information to parents Coordinates/administers and documents progress monitoring in order to accurately complete quarterly progress reports to disseminate to parents 

Routinely communicates with regular education teachers in regards to specific IEP needs of students within regular classroom environments.

  • Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of such students.
  • Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placements of applicants in the school’s special education program.
  • Keep attendance records and all other records pertinent to the special education program for state reporting.
  • Participates in transition planning and preparation for adult life experiences.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in directing the day-to-day activities of assigned paraprofessionals.
