Meet Mr. Decker

Hello.  I would like to begin by welcoming everyone back from what I hope was an enjoyable and relaxing Summer Break.  I am Mr. Decker and I am the High School Mathematics teacher here at Hanover Jr/Sr High School.  This my 14th year teaching, with all 14 being here at Hanover.  I grew up in a small town, and attended a small school.  I always wanted to teach at a small school, thus making Hanover a perfect fit for me.  I graduated high school from Hi-Plains High School in Seibert, Colorado.  I then attended CSU-Pueblo and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mathematics and a Minor in Secondary Education, where I received the Outstanding Math Education Student Award.

I have a passion for Mathematics, and have high expectations for each of my students.  I honestly believe that if a student buys in to what we do in class, and do their part (attendance, notes, ask questions, homework, etc.), each and every one of them will be successful.  It takes dedication to become successful at anything, including Math.  I give 2 nights for every homework assignment, allowing time in class to work on homework and ask questions.  I believe in building a firm and strong foundation.  I am not a teacher who makes it through the book, just to say we made it through the book.  I feel there are certain concepts in each class that are extremely important for success in higher level math classes and college math classes, and I focus on those topics.

Here at Hanover, we offer Conceptual Math, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus.  Students also have the opportunity to attend PPCC and take any higher level math classes needed.  I have attached a short Course Description for each class mentioned above.

Homework:  Each day, I will be adding homework assigned that day by 4:30 PM.  The post will read the entire week, but will be edited each afternoon with updated assignments.  Due to unexpected events, or possible lack of understanding, I wont do a weeks worth of assignments at a time.

Online Resources:   The administration and school board have made a commitment to continued math success by purchasing a completely new, Common Core Math curriculum for the entire district.  This new curriculum came available with many different online resources for each student.  Each student has the option to receive a username and password for their online resources.  All resources can be found at  I want to thank the district administrators and school board for making this commitment.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me and a few of my teaching philosophies.  I hope that this web-page is a helpful resource for you.  If you have any questions, my school number is (719)-683-2247 ext 143 and my email is

Thanks again,

Luke Decker
